The Google mistake that's killing your calls

90% of owners skip this. It takes 10 minutes to fix.

Most home service companies I audit have their Google Business Profile half-finished.

They've got their name, address, phone number. Maybe some reviews.

But when I check the Services section? Blank. Or one generic line like "plumbing services."

Here's the problem:

Google uses your Services section to match you with search queries.

When a homeowner types "emergency water heater repair near me" — Google is looking at your GBP to see if those words show up.

If your Services section says "plumbing" and nothing else… you just lost that click.

Here's what to do (takes 10 minutes):

→ Open Google Business Profile

→ Click "Edit profile" → "Services"

→ Add every single service you offer — not just categories

→ Write a short description for each one (you get 250 characters)

→ Include your city or service area in the description

Example for an HVAC company:

Instead of just "HVAC Services" — add:

→ AC repair

→ Furnace installation

→ Ductwork cleaning

→ Emergency heating repair

→ Annual HVAC maintenance

And for each one, write a description like:

"Same-day AC repair in [Your City]. Licensed, insured, and available 24/7 for emergency calls."

That's free real estate on Google. You don't need to pay for ads to show up for those terms.

Why this matters:

Google's local pack ranking comes down to three things: relevance, proximity, and prominence.

Your Services section is one of the biggest signals Google uses for relevance. If it's blank, you're invisible for half the searches you should be showing up in.

Go fill it out today. It's free. It takes 10 minutes. And it can start driving calls this week.
