The 3 Google Maps Ranking Factors That Actually Matter
Reviews matter. But not the way you think.

There are hundreds of "ranking factors" on Google.
Most of them don't matter.
After ranking 200+ home service businesses on Google Maps, I can tell you - it comes down to three things.
Nail these three and you rank. Ignore them and you won't. Everything else is noise.
#1 Review Velocity
It's not about how many reviews you have. It's about how FAST you're getting them.
Google wants to see a steady stream of new reviews coming in every single week. Not 50 reviews in one month and then nothing for 6 months.
A business with 80 reviews getting 5 new ones per week will outrank a business sitting on 500 reviews that hasn't gotten a new one in 3 months.
Consistency wins. You need a system that asks every single customer for a review — every time, no exceptions.
#2 Rank in Every City You Serve
If you serve 15 cities but your website only mentions your home city - Google has no idea you exist in those other 14.
You need a dedicated page for every city you serve. Not a "service areas" page with a list of city names. A real page with real content optimized for that specific city and your service.
One page per city. One page per service. That's how you show up everywhere your competitors don't.
#3 Tell Google Exactly What You Do
This one flies under the radar.
Google puts serious weight on what's in your Google Business Profile name. If your business name naturally includes your main service keyword — you have a massive advantage.
But beyond that, make sure your primary keyword shows up in all the right places: your website title, your GBP categories, your service descriptions, your about section.
Google needs to understand exactly what you do. Don't make it guess.
Most business owners set up their Google profile once and never touch it again. That's a mistake. Your profile needs to be fully optimized and constantly updated.
I just dropped a full video walking through exactly how to optimize your Google Business Profile step by step - so Google actually knows what you do and where you do it:
Thats it.
Love you,
Andy
