Local SEO: Location Pages Explained
Welcome to the Home Service Marketer newsletter.
These are my own independent thoughts, and I am writing about topics that interest me. I hope you enjoy this journey of learning alongside me.
In today’s newsletter, we are going to cover:
Why Location Pages are Essential for Local SEO Success
How to Craft a Perfectly SEO-Optimized Location Page
Why Your Location Pages Need Strong Internal Links to Rank

Actionable Tip
What to do: First, identify the key locations you want to target. If your service area is large, it’s best to narrow down your focus. I recommend selecting three counties and five primary locations within each county.
Why do this?: When building your site’s hierarchy, user experience should be a top priority. If your "Service Areas" page is overloaded with 100 links to different locations, visitors will find it overwhelming and difficult to navigate. This poor user experience can also negatively impact your SEO.
A better approach is to structure your content by highlighting the counties first. On each county page, you can then link to the specific locations within that area. This structure not only improves the user experience but also makes it easier for Google to crawl and index your pages, increasing your chances of ranking in search results.
How to do it:
Step 1: List your service areas and identify the top three counties you want to target.
Step 2: Choose five primary locations within each county to focus on for your content.
Step 3: Create a county page that links to each of the selected locations. On the location pages, create location-specific content targeted toward your primary keywords.

Structure of a High-Converting Location Page
When building a location page, start with optimizing the meta tags and H1 tag to include your primary keyword + location (e.g., "Top-Rated Plumbing Services in Miami"). Aim for 500 words of unique content, though 800-1000 words is ideal for higher ranking potential.
You will want to include descriptions of your services specific to that location, along with a detailed FAQ section to address common local concerns. The FAQ helps naturally incorporate additional keywords, boosting content relevance.
If you plan to create location pages for your additional services in that area (e.g., "Drain Cleaning in Miami"), link to them within the content to guide users and enhance site navigation.
Do not overlook Internal linking. It is crucial for SEO because it creates a network of connections that search engines use to crawl and index your site. By linking from your location page to other service pages, you improve the chances of all your pages getting indexed, while also distributing SEO value (link equity) across your website. This strategy not only helps search engines understand your site structure but also encourages visitors to explore more services, increasing engagement.
